Hogfather

Hogfather (Discworld, #20) - Terry Pratchett The Hogfather is classic mid winter festival, Father Christmas type belief focus for a pig based economy. He rides a huge, rustic wooden sleigh pulled by 4 hogs. And he appears to be missing. Dead isn't quite the word, if he doesn't return, it will be as if he never existed. And it takes a very special type of assassin to have "killed" the Hogfather, one that is, frankly, so far round the bend he makes a corkscrew look straight. But someone has to deliver the presents to all the children in one night, in order to keep the space for the belief to exist. He might look all nice and twinkly now, but (as with fairy stories every where) the root of it all is blood and the mid winter belief that the sun wont return unless something is done... So who can fill the void? Who knows where everyone lives? That's it, Death steps in and tries his best to fill the void (complete with false beard and pillow) although the "Ho Ho Ho" needs some more work. But he can't manage it all himslef, so Susan gets roped in again, despite he determination not to get involved.
