Not exactly a sequel to Graceling, related to it, but (in time) precedes it. Tells of a land where there are normal animals and there is a sub-species that are monstrous. They have the power to distort thoughts, and are feared, but also desired. The human monster is Fire, named for her vivid red hair. She is coming of age in a world that doesn't really want her, but she can't retreat from it. She has to learn to use her mental powers, to help save the king, while at the same time coming to terms with those confusing things like love. A book for teens, but, you know what, had tears in my eyes at the end.
